Out of Africa

I'm happy to say that we're home sweet home!  Africa was amazing and we got a lot of footage, 5 1/2 hours!  The reason we went was to make a promotional for The Reckoning Kenya, so this may be difficult to edit down to a 10 and 3 minute clip.  We got some great footage of associates of The Reckoning telling their success stories.  Here is Wycliff (left) and he makes bricks and has a vegetable garden for his living.  He is showing Tim and Daniel Onguko (our driver and Reckoning leader) his carrots that he grew.  We met many other people who had gotten loans from the Reckoning and were very thankful and happy to show us what they had done with it.  For many we were the first white people they saw and were facinated with us and our cameras.  Here we are at a fish hatchery that the whole neighborhood came out to see.  These people were way back in the heart of Africa.  We finally had to walk to some places because our SUV couldn't go any further.  We saw some beautiful scenery and also worked up a sweat lugging all the camera equipment along.  The kids would usually come out of the bushes and hang around us.  What precious children.  While we were there, we had a Reckoning conference to teach the associates how to run a business and get out of poverty.  Also on Sunday Tim preached and all 3 guys (Tim, Jason Rovenstein and Eugene) spoke afterwards to pastors and business leaders.  Eugene did so good, I was so proud.  He spoke about different points from Joel Osteen's book "A Better You" that his mom has had a lot of success with in overcoming her sleep depravation of 10 years.  They loved it so much that they begged for copies of what he read, which we happily made for them.  Another highlight was when we visited Bishop Onguko's (Daniel's dad) school and he had trees for the students to plant and wanted each of us to plant trees first and name them.  I named mine "Moses" for leading people out of slavery and to the promise land.  Eugene named his "Paul" for the apostle Paul and for his dad.  So we had a good trip, of course we had some difficult times, but we got some great footage and will hopefully make a great promotional DVD for the Reckoning.  We feel that God has blessed us in many ways for going on this trip.
